May 20th, 2009 . Crazy "rip" wave action -- if you are inclined to experience vertigo from too much movement, fasten your seat belt. This was during the almost-tropical-storm-Ana subtropical low that hung over the state for days with high winds and flooding -- invoking a rare double red flag warning that (supposedly) closes the beach to swimming.

Mother Nature being Artistic
This little work of art that resembles the face of a dog (if you examine the reflections closely you can maybe detect eyes, nose, and mouth in addition to those "ears"?), is actually some form of a large sea bean or drift seed (these wash up on the beach frequently here), but this one had two little "shells" attached resembling ears (we think that the shells are some form of barnacle, as they attach themselves like that to just about anything and usually en masse)...[editorial comment: although this item was admittedly mildly curious, we wonder if the videographer might need to get away for a few days, WITHOUT a camera...]

Sand castle fortress complete with moats. This was taken at high tide and the entire complex was just a couple of inches too high to get the moats filled with ocean water from the waves. Nice try, maybe next time...
.The Residences of Tungurahua (why DO people live on an active volcano anyway? or in California directly on fault lines? or in "toronado alley"? or in Florida's bowling alley for hurricanes? oh, um, wait a minute, that's where WE live -- but at least we KNOW when a hurricane is going to hit...)

The vid guy noticed a rather unusual bubbling up of air in an intertidal lagoon -- these are unusual in any sense, but this particular one was highly unusual due to the fact that it had been bubbling up for about 15 minutes prior to capturing the above video and was still going strong 15 minutes later... Anyone know what the source of this strange bubbling might be and why it would endure for up to as long as half an hour???
