Hollywood is locally known more appropriately as Hollywoodn't, Holly Wouldn't, Hollow-wood, and residents are referred to as Hollow-heads and consequently are the reason that it is also referred to as HollyWEIRD...

.This page specifically addresses the city of Hollywood Florida and it's sincere and monumental mountain of shortsighted shortcomings, devious deceptions, contemptible corruption, mis-guided mis-management, and horrendous hypocrisy.
Hollywood's menage a trois pollution triplex...
Eye pollution, noise pollution, air pollution, and water pollution, all generated by the triad of the airport, the shipping port, and the coal burning power plant; all directly adjacent to what they still have the audacity to call a park on the beach (the video was taken at the beach). Realize that the cheap video camera used to capture the above video has a low-end fixed wide-angle lens and "objects" in the video are in real life actually much larger than they appear in the video and much closer and much uglier, particularly when those four smokestacks (just to left of middle of video) are belching black toxic clouds of smoke that is blowing your way... Note that occasionally if they have been burning something other than coal at the power plant (it is said they sometimes burn trash, at night to lessen detection), and there is a slight breeze out of the north/northwest, at sunrise a black trail of smoke which gives the appearance of a smudgy greyish cloud bank, can be observed originating at the smokestacks and trailing off for miles over the ocean -- what a beautiful sight to start the day... Hollywood Beach Sewage Factories. Not only does all the sewage from these wall to wall high rise condos get flushed out into the ocean waters just offshore (and washes back into the beaches with added chemicals of course...), but the rancidly smelly "sewer gas" along the beach broadwalk accommodations and restaurants is blowing around in the air everywhere and is extremely revolting -- just try to eat that burrito with brown beans and brown hambuger with brown sauce running out it when the entirely too pungently foul reek of putrid, rotting excrement is in the air... A footnote regarding the deplorably disgusting sewage-tainted ocean waters on Hollywood beach. Questionable (or just plain deceptive?) testing of the levels of (fecal) "bacteria" in Hollywood beach ocean waters are supposedly conducted on a weekly basis (as one of only thirty test spots along the entire 300 miles of South Florida coastline, and only in knee-deep water) -- ask yourself why this is not done daily and why not in several spots at several depths instead of once every ten miles -- and the tests are usually clandestinely performed at times of the (mid) week when the contamination levels will test lower due to less swimmers (who tend to also deposit their own personal sewage in the ocean waters in addition to the "treated" city sewage as their are absolutely NO bathroom "facilities" on several miles of Hollywood's beaches, and in the middle of it all they have a "dog beach" where hundreds of mutts relieve themselves). Further, realize that test results are not arrived at for at least 24 hours, and by the time any action is taken to post warnings or "close" a beach, as much as 48 hours may have expired, so "they" are telling you that the water was unsafe two days ago... And, even further, be aware that at times when bacteria levels had tested as "alarmingly high", more extensive testing was performed taking several tests in the affected area and the results indicated that several test spots would should very high levels of bacteria but just yards away from those spots considerably less severe and even "acceptable" (but still sewage tainted) levels were found to exist. This "phenomenon" of safe and unsafe areas within close proximity of each other -- while the supposed "experts" obfuscatingly cry "no explanation" -- is explained simply as some bacterial effluent manages to wash up all the way in to various spots based on where it originated, what reefs it may have encountered and was diverted by, what "sand bars" it may have encountered and was diverted by, and what effect the water currents and winds may have had on the flow of the bacteria contaminated waters, and then too there are areas where beach-goers have recently relieved themselves which will result in high bacteria levels... Yet the so-called tourism-biased hypocritical experts have no answers? They aren't that stupid, they are just avoiding the reality of the problem... As a result of the aforementioned lackadaisical tests, when the levels are found to be high enough that it just might cause a minor illness outbreak of those that just happened to have taken a swim in the ocean, the lifeguards go around and quietly suggest that people stay out of the water for their own safety. However, on those occasions when the tests indicate the possibility of a major illness outbreak of those that just happened to have taken a swim in the ocean, to avoid the bad publicity generated from a major outbreak, they will actually "close" [sic] the beaches to swimmers via the display of "red flags" posted on the lifeguard stands, but only during the hours that the lifeguards on duty. This may be somewhat effective, but is inadequate when the danger persists for days on end, as it did recently (in late August 2010 -- here is a link to an actual rare article on the contamination). Since the link to the article will probably be eradicated soon due to pressure (or a "payoff"?) from the tourism industry, we will include some of the more pertinent info from the article below, but note that the linked-to article "pulls some punches"; for example, yet another article indicated that all FIVE miles of Hollywood's beaches were affected and closed, and that just happens to be all of the miles of beach that Hollywood has, so they were trying to downplay it by inferring that the entire Hollywood coastline was not affected... From the Wikipedia page for Hollywood (Wikipedia info can be created by anyone): "Hollywood is located in southeastern Broward County, and includes about 5–6 miles of Atlantic Ocean beach, interrupted briefly by a portion deeded to Dania Beach"; realize that the '6' of the "5-6 miles" is an exaggeration, because we have biked the paved roadway next to the beach from one end to the other and the odometer registered 4.6 miles with about a quarter mile on the south end past the paved road -- this can be verified on any online map application, and Google maps verifies Hollywood's beaches, plus Dania's adjoining beach is exactly five miles. Anyway, the text of the article linked to above follows for your perusal in case the link goes away... "For reasons that remain unknown [THAT is a BIG lie], water tests continue to show high levels of poo-related bacteria off one of Hollywood's beaches [another lie, it was the entire beach]. The Broward County Health Department on Thursday warned that swimmers should avoid taking a dip in the ocean at the beach near Minnesota Street. Officials warn the bacteria in the water puts swimmers at risk of contracting gastroenteritis, also known as the stomach flu, which causes diarrhea [which also adds to the problem]. The Health Department on Thursday issued an all-clear [sic] for the beaches near Custer and Harrison streets, and the Dania Beach pier after new water tests showed bacteria levels had dropped ["dropped" = lowered enough to hopefully not cause a major traceable problem?]. They had issued dirty water advisories for those spots on Wednesday [the original tests indicating unsafe levels were conducted on Monday?]. Bacteria-level readings for the south Broward beaches have been spiking for nearly six weeks, and officials are stumped as to why the dirty water keeps turning up at the same beaches [because the dumped and leaked sewage washes back in to shore, dummies!]. There is a sewage pipe that outflows [a nice word for dumped] almost ["almost"?] two miles into the ocean near Johnson Street, but city spokeswoman Raelin Storey said staffers have not noticed anything different with the outflow [like their "staffers" go out there and look?]. That wastewater is treated with chlorine, she said [we hope...and just chlorine?]. The Health Department tests the water weekly for the presence of the fecal bacteria E. Coli and enterocci and does immediate re-tests when they find high bacteria levels. New results are expected Friday afternoon, officials said [just in time for the weekend poop-and-pee-in-the-ocean crowd]." So much for the preceding tourism-controlled media baloney, here is realistic information on the subject. "Accurate indicators of fecal pollution are needed in order to minimize public health risks associated with wastewater contamination in recreational waters. However, the bacterial indicators currently used for monitoring water quality do not correlate with the presence of pathogens. Here we demonstrate that the plant pathogen Pepper mild mottle virus (PMMoV) is widespread and abundant in wastewater from the United States, suggesting the utility of this virus as an indicator of human fecal pollution. Quantitative PCR was used to determine the abundance of PMMoV in raw sewage, treated wastewater, seawater exposed to wastewater, and fecal samples and/or intestinal homogenates from a wide variety of animals. PMMoV was present in all wastewater samples at concentrations greater than 1 million copies per milliliter of raw sewage. Despite the ubiquity of PMMoV in human feces, this virus was not detected in the majority of animal fecal samples tested, with the exception of chicken and seagull samples. PMMoV was detected in four out of six seawater samples collected near point sources of secondary treated wastewater off southeastern Florida, where it co-occurred with several other pathogens and indicators of fecal pollution. Since PMMoV was not found in nonpolluted seawater samples and could be detected in surface seawater for approximately 1 week after its initial introduction, the presence of PMMoV in the marine environment reflects a recent contamination event." Here is a link to the preceding abstract if you would like to peruse it in full... Note that the waters are NOT tested for toxic chemical contamination because that does not typically make humans sick immediately (but, hey what if it does, no-one will know it was the chemicals); more typically, humans will eventually get cancers from continued immersion into toxically contaminated waters. Realize that all that crude sludge and chemical "dispersants" from the gulf oil volcano is coming around the peninsula in the gulf stream, combined with all the sewage and sludge and toxic chemicals from all the megalopolis metro areas around the gulf coast all the way around and down to Mexico... Ick! Rat Infested Beach. Another reason to watch your step, runover rats, snakes, and scorpions litter the roadways of the beach. These critters of course also manage to get into the walls of beach accommodations as well as residences, eventually finding or chewing new entrances into dwellings. Those rustlings you hear in the night can mean unpleasant company here. You can also see rats scurrying about in the vegetation on the beach, and of course at night they are openly pillaging the profuse abundance of leftovers of littering beach-goers, and are joined by hoards of raccoons and stray feral abandoned animals that are dumped out to fend on their own (after their owners croak of old age)... And yes, if you watch the video, those green spots on the rat are bottle flies laying their eggs that will soon turn into maggots... "Blue Wave" Beach? Hollywood touts it beach as designated as a "Blue Wave" beach by some organization which must surely accept bribes to ordain this supposedly good classification upon beaches. You can see in the videos that the beaches above and below are extremely trashy, and we feel that the blue wave tag would more appropriately represent that people turn "blue" as they are hit with a "wave" of nausea from exposure to the rotting filth, trash, and garbage on Hollywood beaches. The above video of Hollywood beach shows the profuse amount of trash left behind by beach goers, noting at the end of the video on the left side is a large trash receptacle only a short walk away from the low-life sleazy creeps were that simply left it behind -- realize that this trash was "left behind", but also that it was right there next to them when these filthy people were still there, lounging in their own squalor. This is one example indicating the type of incredibly disgusting vermin that is taking over this region. Time to move elsewhere... Below is a second video for more of a closeup. Realize that these videos were captured at two p.m. in the afternoon, and apparently the one-person cleanup crew was AWOL this day, not that he does much good when he is not AWOL... If you want to check out a video of a trashy beach that is about 100 times worse (no typo, no exaggeration, see for yourself...), click on the "SoFla Beaches" tab at the top of the page and scroll down to the video of Miami's South Beach -- and for the sake of anyone thinking Hollywood, peruse our point that we make there about the fact that the trashy element down there is migrating north to Hollywood, while the few decent people remaining here flee the area to escape the scummy, sleazy people encroaching northward infesting the Florida coast... The above video is to emphasize the aforementioned reference to sewer gas and the malodorous stench on the beach broadwalk that emanates from the sewers just off of the broadwalk. Garbage such as that depicted above washes out of the sewers onto Surf Road, and yes that is a dead cockroach in the middle of the trash... Mid July 2010. In addition to news reports of oil slicks off of Hollywood, we are beginning to spot some tar balls on the beach, something that we have not observed for decades here... Altho, the size of this oil blob is more the size of a "cow pattie" than a "ball" -- then again, it could just be dog poop... Dangers on the beach broadwalk. Hollywood also touts it's broadwalk as a beautiful "promenade". Be aware that local hospital emergency rooms, chiropractors, surgeons, and orthopedic specialists view the broadwalk as a major source of new patients. The broadwalk has a bike lane in which boneheaded morons stand, walk, jog, run, and even lay down. This results in bikers and skaters going at high speed outside the bike lane through the crowds of people. Little children get run over, old people get knocked down, and of course even physically sound people end up in disastrous collisions, which send many to the emergency rooms. The above video depicts the congestion and dangers that it is necessary to constantly monitor and occasionally dodge, altho it does not show a good example of just how dangerous it truly gets; be ready to stop dead or dodge, or get hit by a moronic speedster. Below is another video of the broadwalk and the public showers -- if you saw that soap scum in the video, watch where you step....
Luxury Beachfront Hangout for Hollywood Police. The above video is of a beachfront luxury compound with pool purchased at $3.7 million with county funds. It is currently being re-luxurized with more state/county funds ($1.2 million, so far). Since the five years ago purchase of the mansion we have only observed police patrol cars and vehicles with the license plates of those associated with the police. An example of what goes on here - five million dollars of our money for a luxurious beach hangout for the police. Yet the state and county could not manage to contribute a computer to prevent turning our previously tourism attracting website into the current anti-tourism website. How incredibly stupid is that?
Hollywood beach law enFARCEment. This family was being ticketed for having "open containers" on the beach. This particular "infraction", like so many others, is selectively enforced (can you say "profiling"?), but confoundingly and hypocritically is also largely ignored, as the main part of the broadwalk and the beach is overrun with beach-goers openly guzzling booze in open containers. This particular type of police "patrol" zips up and down fairly deserted stretches of the beach at sunset and picks whomever they choose with a cooler or an "open container" and writes out tickets with fines of $50 each (two tickets were being written by two of the three copperoos in the above video for the two men in the family while the third cop "read them the riot act"). This so-called open container law is supposedly targeted at winos, bums, drunks, and the homeless, but some of the male officers use it to ticket (can you say "harass"?) lovely women that are sipping expensive wine out of a glass made of expensive hand-cut crystal at sunset, while they ignore other violations of the law such as people walking their pooping dogs on the beach ("they" admit that they have been instructed to "lay off" some specific infractions such as dog law violations). Heavy handed Hollywood hypocrisy -- enjoy your day at the beach, but be prepared to be harassed and fined... More Hollywood law enFARCEment. Since we have mentioned the local Hollywood police being ethically corrupt, we felt we should point out an article that covers the incident where a police patrol car accidentally rear-ended the vehicle of an ordinary citizen and three police officers, a Community Service Officer, and a crime-scene technician on the scene all conspired together to blame the accident on the innocent driver as having backed her vehicle into the patrol car, and then wrongfully arrested and jailed her for drunken driving (she had consumed a couple of drinks). It was discovered later that an in-car video camera in the police vehicle of one of the officers had taped their conversation to wrongfully frame the innocent driver. That's how it is in SoFla; more later... Click on this link to the article and this link to an article on the ensuing lawsuit which provides more details as to just how blatantly despicable this unjust travesty was. Come to Florida, get wrongfully arrested and thrown in jail because some stupid cop can't drive down the street -- that's the way it is here, a corrupt police state where the innocent are in danger not only from criminals, but also from police. A Beach Dump The above video shows a growing problem not only in all of mainland Hollywood, but also on the beach: blighted areas. This beach home with ocean view was condemned, abandoned, and for years has been unmaintained. We occasionally observe homeless people sleeping in the courtyard at night and slipping through the garage door... Note that the residents and businesses of the region, especially Broward county and the city of Hollywood, are faced with impending financial collapse. Just one such indication is that property values across the local area have taken one of the worst dives in history, plunging as much as twenty five percent and consequently everyone is now faced with soon to be imposed tax increases, service cuts, and personal financial woes, which of course will initiate a more intense avalanching cyclical effect for which there likely will be no recourse before either an "oilicane" or "oilinami" hits the state, or the word gets out about the rising sea levels which is not only already flooding low lying areas but is also already causing saltwater intrusion into the fresh water aquifers, or a terrorist attack turns the region into the next Chernobyl....so many brick walls that the Florida trainwreck cannot avoid... Clear cutting, deforestation, raping the environment. Supposedly, Hollywood is all for conservation of what little remaining natural wilderness areas there are here, but as the above video demonstrates, such is not the case. The wooded area above being leveled by bulldozers is part of a walking trail area of Hollywood's West Lake Park, adjacent to the Anne Kolb nature center. No one seems to be able to provide any information as why this is being allowed but the parks department responded that they speculated that it was for "flood control", which quite simply is blatantly incorrect for a number of obvious reasons that we will not bore you with...

This is just one small example of where the money goes down here; whereas this project might have some minimal merit as an R&R haven for the police, considerably more money is thrown at absolutely worthless "projects" which reek of kickbacks (as reported by the local press, not just our conclusion.
UPDATE: our mistake, it is a five million dollar beachfront "frat" house with a pool for TURTLES and college students to "hang out"; the local newspaper finally printed an article about the above noted fiasco. Here is a link to the article, but in case they are forced to eradicate the article, we include below some of the main points from it...
"A beachfront home in Hollywood purchased by the county to be a marine education center still isn't open after more than six years." No typo, that is six years, not months...
"So far, taxpayers have poured nearly $5 million into the half-acre site..."
"Broward's parks department doesn't have employees to staff the center."
"The main attractions [are] to learn about sea turtles, hold meetings, and get married – are already available at another county park less than a mile away".
"The county plans to let two college students live in the house and care for the sea turtles that will be on display in an outdoor pool."
"For awhile, the only people allowed on the property were Hollywood police officers who lived there rent-free in exchange for keeping an eye on things [in an area where there is absolutely ZERO CRIME, and we never observed them doing anything but taking life easy on the beach]."
""Just looking at the facts – the purchase price, the cost, there's going to be zero revenue coming in. It doesn't make sense.'' This last point ignores, or dances around, the facts that the owner of the property was paid waaay too much money for it (no doubt kickbacks to county commissioners led to the overpriced payment) and that the painfully long drawn out process of waaay too many laborers doing waaay too little work (our personal, real-life observations confirm that) for waaay to long at waaay too high wages (no doubt, more kickbacks from the construction firm).
Footnote. Over the last six years, the county has blown well over a million dollars fixing up the place, during which the property value of the house has dropped well over a millions dollars. We suggest that they put up a sign with a name for the house, like "Floridumbiah"
.
.
Update: they had the audacity to put up signs to the effect that the area is undergoing "wetlands improvement" along with one of those huge battery operated roadside flashing signs that they were doing "wetlands reconstruction". "Reconstruction"? We think they meant "deforestation" (the barely-English-speaking sign-makers here often get words completely wrong; recently, a sign that was supposed to warn of "recirculated [sewage] water" used in a fountain ended up stating "reticulated water") ... We will get another video and upload it so that you see that all they did was "clear cut" the natural environment so that they could mulch the trees and get kickbacks from the tree-levelers that they paid off with our taxpayer dollars.
.
Here is a video of another new, bigger, "better" sign. Wonder how much they paid for that sign...
. .Incredibly Stupid Mis-management. There are so many examples of how the state of Florida, the counties, and municipalities -- especially Hollywood -- are mis-managed by Floridiots, that we could fill books with them all, but we will only list of few of the most obvious, and hopefully humorous to some extent. The first one that came to mind (because we see it every day down the street), is that a lovely vacant lot with native foliage and two lovely pine trees exist on old north beach in Hollywood. The city recently spent (hundreds of?) thousands of dollars to plant sapling trees in the neighborhoods, whether we needed or wanted them or not. So, when the city was requested to not plant these trees in the empty lot, they refused to acquiesce to the property manager and did it anyway, saying they had rights 20 feet from the center of the bordering roadway. They planted the saplings directly under the huge pine trees, and if the saplings had lived to grow to full height they would have grown up into the branches of the pines — incredibly stupid. But, as most people that live here know, these particular pines put out acidic roots that kill any other type of trees that might somehow start to grow — incredibly stupid point number two. So, the saplings died, as the city was informed that they would before they planted them. As soon as the saplings were planted, the city came around every day with huge water trucks and watered the immediately dying trees; and have kept coming around daily for months afterward to keep watering the obviously dead trees — stupid point number three. Lastly for now, realize that the morons planted these saplings, which would grow to over twenty feet in height, DIRECTLY UNDER the huge pine trees, which allowed no sun for the saplings and which only allowed about ten feet of open space before the saplings would have grown into the pine trees if they could grow in those shaded, acidic conditions — stupid point number four, certifiably moronic. We can only imagine what remaining stupid points will surface in this fiasco, but for now they just leave the dead trees there as an eyesore, and we will follow up as soon as they figure out their next stupid mis-management trick on just this one little example of a bunch of stupid mis-management examples that cost huge amounts of money — wasted money — but no doubt someone in the city was in line for a monetary kickback… Below is a video showing some of the dead saplings that the city planted under one of the acidic pine trees.
And below is a video of one of the city water trucks on their daily rounds of watering of all of the dead trees. Note that they watch for us and every time we start to video them they shut off the water and take off… Lastly on this, realize that Hollywood has in place restrictions on water usage for residents and businesses, yet they have purchased, maintain and fuel a fleet of water trucks, and then pay employees to drive all over Hollywood -- polluting the air -- offloading thousands of gallons of water daily onto the plethora of dead trees that they planted. Note that the water gushes out of the water trucks at too high of a rate to soak into the ground and immediately runs off down the street to dissipate in the hot sun. Certifiable lunacy.
. .
More expensive mis-management waste. The egregiously incompetent dimwitted nincompoops that mismanage the Hollywood "public works" department pull off the most incredibly stupid "works" that we have ever had the misfortune to witness. The above video is not the worst example, but it depicts a very expensive, incredibly moronic failure. They took several months of an overstaffed, lackadaisical work crew to plant hundreds of new sickly palm trees, upwards of a thousand, along several miles of beach, as you can see in the video in a very dense pattern. What may not be very obvious is that for some insane reason, almost all of the green foliage of the new palm trees had been trimmed down to virtually nothing. Consequently, lacking fronds to soak up sunshine, about eighty to ninety percent of the new trees have already died, and even some of them had brown leaves and were obviously already goners before even being planted. The result is that the beach now has what looks like a bunch of barren "telephone poles" strewn upon several miles of beach. The catch is that this particular species of ugly palm tree has only a little round patch of palm fronds at the top, does not provide any shade like the coconut palm, and of course does not yield any coconuts (the coconuts from coconut palms are harvested by locals because the juice and pulp of the coconut is beneficial to health), and rather rains down hoards of inedible red berries that rot in the sun and draw flies, with the branches drying up and turning brown -- an ugly useless type of palm. Only in Holly-DUH-wouldn't, home of the stupidest, laziest, most indolent, most obnoxious, most arrogant, freeloading public works (or, doesn't work) department ever witnessed. Lastly, whatever the enormity of the cost to procure and plant the dead palm trees, realize that they are now faced with the added expense of removing the ugly stumps. More wasted money down the so-called public works drain, money that could have instead been used to promote tourism, and to have financed tourism-promoting websites, like the one we once maintained. How certifiably stupid this entire fiasco was, is almost beyond comprehension... Update: the video below was taken a few months later, showing a "crack" dead tree removal crew pulling up and disposing of the dead trees (note that three of the four palms planted had died and were taken out here in this one spot -- and the fourth one that they left did not look terribly healthy...).
. .
The un-ending morass of mis-management. In 2002 Broward County mandated that all coastal cities must pass laws requiring "turtle-friendly" lighting (night-time glare from beachfront lighting attracts newly hatched sea turtle babies to go the wrong way...) and all cities complied except for Hollywood. So here it is 2010, after eight years of resisting the county mandate, and Hollywood finally acquiesced because Florida's Department of Environmental Protection and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers refused to grant permits for Hollywood's beach restoration project unless the city puts an ordinance in place to make lighting along the five mile beach sea turtle friendly. In 2007, five years after the county mandate to dim the lights, the city of Hollywood installed new a new picket fe nce of bright street lights directly on their beachfront broadwalk in defiance of the mandate. So, now it is back to the drawing board, another boulder added to the mountain of wasted project$ that has to be done over because of local mis-management lacking foresight (or just being plain ignorant, stupid maybe"). Link to article about the costly street light fiasco (note the comment that the "cost could reach $1 million" to undo their blunder; no doubt one or some or all of the city officials will get a financial kickback out the taxpayer money to finally do the right thing).
Hollywood's plan to dump "waste water effluent" into their drinking water source. As a followup to the aforementioned saltwater intrusion scenario, we thought we should pass along the certifiably boneheaded plan that the local gourdheads have dreamed up. The city of Hollywood has a plan to implement a "salinity barrier project". This would inject "treated" (with toxic chemicals which leave heavy residues) "wastewater effluent" (a.k.a. "sewage") into their portion of the Biscayne Aquifer that has been intruded with salt water (reportedly, so far about one mile inland from the ocean), supposedly creating a temporary barrier that will hold off saltwater intrusion for a while, they hope. But, since Hollywood draws it drinking water from this same aquifer, we question the intentional dumping of toxically treated "wastewater effluent" sewage into what is "tap water" for the average resident/tourist.
Don't Drink the Water? Most informed people are aware that public water supplies around the nation are contaminated with prescription drugs. Consider that America is the heaviest user of prescription drugs on the planet, something like three times more than the second place victim. Also, consider that south Florida is heavily populated with the elderly, most of which (if not all) are known to ingest multiple prescription drugs (as many as a dozen), many of which are mood altering psychotic drugs, so the level of these drugs in the water supply is much higher than it is nationally. Given this, and the previously mentioned unpleasant nature of SoFla residents, we have to conclude that ingestion of SoFla tap water has something to do with the difficult, even deranged people that reside, and visit here...
Corruption. We will not even attempt to summarize the overwhelming corruption in the area, which extends ad nauseum from "legal" gambling and all that it attracts, city administrations, community organizations, politicians, police, to the mainstream medical community (consider elderly, nursing homes, hospice "assisted suicide", pharmaceutical abuse, about which the local media does articles entitled "Neglected to Death"), and much more...
Police. A sincere and monumental topic to cover, but we will mention here that altho there are some "good guys" on the local police force, that there are some really sinister law ignorance officials in Hollywood, and there are far too many reports of corruption to even begin to address here. One point we will cover is this. Everywhere you go at any time on the beach you will see "cops", on bikes, on foot, and of course in their air conditioned patrol cars parked everywhere. Given this, consider that there is no crime on the beach, AND THERE NEVER HAS BEEN ANY CRIME on Hollywood BEACH; all the criminals live inland and never come to the beach, so even if the cops were not hanging out everywhere on the beach, there would be NO crime there... Contrast that with the fact that I once had reason to drive into, around, and remain at a location in the worst high crime area of Hollywood for three hours and never once saw a cop. Not one. Because they were all hanging out at the beach, a nice safe place. The corruption here is absolutely sickening. One more thing, if you dare to do what I am doing, you will be "BOLO-d", harassed by the police -- they will try to put you in jail, they will follow you everywhere. This is a "police state" here, and mostly a very corrupt one. Perhaps you noted Hollywood on the national news recently. The report was on a patrol car accidentally rear ending another vehicle. With the patrol car video camera running the officer conferred with other officers on the scene and decided to arrest the innocent person whose vehicle was rear-ended by the patrol car for supposedly backing up into the patrol car and claim that the driver was drunk (which they did do...). That's how it is here, blatant hypocrisy and corruption...
Utility Companies. The same vacant lot in the above video with the tree planting mis-management example, is "posted" with several no-parking and no-littering signs, along with signs that violators will be towed and fined. Florida Power and Light work crews storm in out of nowhere and park up to five of their huge utility trucks there at a time, sometimes taking up half the street, restricting traffic flow. They then remain parked there for hours at a time, doing nothing (aka loitering) while "on the clock", with their diesel engines running (for air conditioning) cranking out toxic carcinogenic diesel fumes which drifts into the local residences in this private residential neighborhood of north Hollywood. Note that these do-nothing power company employees eat, smoke, sleep, congregate, ogle at beach bypassers, spit, scratch themselves, and openly throw out their trash and cigarette butts. Complaints to the utility company usually work for a week or two but are eventually ignored and the disgusting riff-raff returns to terrorize the private neighborhood. We concede that it is necessary to some extent to overstaff these types of work crews for times of emergency, but following hurricanes all of the work crews that we see here actually doing work are contractors from out state, not FP&L work crews. This one example is all too typical of Florida utilities and their blatant disregard for the public which they overcharge through exorbitantly high utility rates, with the profits from which they do NOT adequately prepare for emergencies, always tackling problems after the fact, then requesting funds to do what they should have done with the profits before the obvious problems arose. Yep, this is typical of the state of Flori-DUH, and what you will be faced with if your happen to have to relocate here -- not good for the old high blood pressure problem. More on this later, much more, but for now, the video below shows a couple of the trucks getting ready to hang out for a few hours (note that they don't give a rat's rear end about blocking traffic while doing absolutely nothing; all to typical of the jerks that live and work here...
.
The above video depicts the ATV's which each lifeguard at each station cruises up and down the beach with, and the huge jet ski, sitting on a trailer. Note that this was taken on an unpleasantly hot day, and there was no one on the beach, no swimmers. So they haul out these huge machines, they sit on a trailer not near the water, and by the time they manage to get the jet ski in the water a swimmer could drown. There are also several "fire rescue" trucks that cruise the beach, park anywhere ogling the girlies, and never seem to have anything constructive to do except collect a paycheck. The hours that the lifeguards sit around in their cozy beach stands are supposedly 9 to 5, altho they often don't show up til 10 or after and of course leave early. So, what about the swimmers before 9 and after 5? You're on your own...
The above video shows three of the aforementioned "fire rescue" trucks which must have something to do with the lifeguard thing, but in all of our decades living on the beach, we have never observed them to do anything but drive around, read newspapers, sleep, eat, and some other things we suspect...which we don't even like to think about. But seriously, consider why these "truck drivers" congregate at one lifeguard stand? Shouldn't they be out somewhere loafing in their designated area of the beach?
.With your life on the line...
And, the above video would indicate that a lifeguard clocked in, drove his ATV up the beach, parked it at the lifeguard stand, didn't bother to even open it up to make it look like anyone was there, then likely jumped in the car with his girlfriend and headed off for a "romp in the hay"? We see this happen a lot, and realize that sometimes there might be a valid reason for it, but strongly feel that this is simply more lackadaisical easy living while getting paid for it, just like all the rest of the "in cahoots" Hollywood freeloaders from the lowliest public works bathroom scrubber all the way up to the top...

Rising Sea Levels. The "great coverup" along Florida shores is that the sea levels are rising due to the polar, glacial, and global ice sheets melting at a much more alarming rate than predicted and the effects are already being seen here, but not reported. A couple of years ago, a road construction project in north Hollywood raised the level of the AIA roadway by two feet, also adding abutments to hold back rising waters. This road runs parallel to, and between, the ocean and the intracoastal waterway (that separates the coastal barrier island from the adjacent mainland swamp) and had increasingly experienced flooding of the roadways at high tide in times of drought -- so the flooding was from rising water levels, not from torrential rains. That was two years ago; we recently observed that the water levels were now approaching the top of the new abutments at high tides. This of course is kept quiet by the local chamber of commerce and real estate industry, as it is difficult to sell waterfront property and attract new residents when the area is faced with rising sea levels consuming low lying areas. You see this on the news about coastal dwellers in Alaska and remote Pacific islands, but the same thing is happening here -- they just try to keep it very quiet or put their own spin on it. See the point above entitled "The eventual flooding of Sofla" for proof of this. Also, below, we have added a video of the old AIA sidewalk where it merges with the new raised sidewalk -- note the high-tide detritus on the old lower section of the sidewalk where the water is still flooding the sidewalk/road and that the watery swamp vegetation is pushing out onto the sidewalk...
Raising the sidewalks and roads to counteract the rising sea levels flooding the streets, already, now, today...
Update: now that the word about the already-occurring inland-flooding has gotten out, they are trying to throw up a smokescreen mirage about it with "their brainless" solutions. Here is a link to an article on the problems of the rising sea levels for Florida and what they shamefully imply that they can try to do about it. Yep, they are just going to pump the encroaching, intruding, flooding ocean waters back out into the ocean surrounding this flat low-lying peninsula...riiiight, that ought work! I mean the water they pump out into the encroaching ocean waters won't just come right back in will it? Flow-rid-DUH...

An EASY Target for Terrorism. Surrounded by water, intrusion by terrorists makes this densely populated area easily accessible. The Port of Miami to the south and directly adjacent Port Everglades increases the susceptibility of bioterrorism as well as the importation of nuclear weapons. Consider the heavy concentration of the pro-Israel population residing here and you have an area with an easy target on its back... Also, consider very strongly that porous southeast Florida is home to the Cuban exile community, and be very aware that Castro is said to have extensive biological weapons research facilities in Vedado Cuba (in the lower floors of Farmacia Internationale del Cubanos). Given the high potential and susceptibility of the Sofla region, realize that they allow unmonitored, uncontrolled flights of gasoline powered hang-gliders by anyone at any time; how conveniently easy that makes it for terrorists to do a simple fly-by releasing a deadly bio-weapon nerve gas onto the onshore prevailing winds into the wall to wall mile high resorts and condominiums, home to not just Americans, but to a high concentration of Cuban American exiles and American Jews, as well as tourists and far too many retirees that only suck up federal funds via social security and medicare. "How stupid is that", to allow absolutely anyone to fly these contraptions to up and down the coast line unchecked and unimpeded -- they can even launch from boats offshore and would never have to set foot on American soil, and they would even have a high chance of getting away after killing hundreds of thousands of Americans. You think "911" was bad? And, this fly-by nerve-gas approach is wide open, easy, inexpensive, safer for the terrorists, and much more effective. How can they allow this to be a free and open method of killing Americans, when they shoot down errant private planes that get off course?
Disclaimer: again, we are not "letting the cat out of the bag", this is all too well commonly known; consider that the eventual 911 terrorists took up residence in Hollywood prior to executing their plan, and their cohorts (and Castro) are well aware of this ignored vulnerability... We speculate that "they" ignore this for several reasons, like the world is overpopulated anyway, so what's a few hundred thousand less Cubans, Jews, tourists, and retirees sucking up federal monies via their monthly social security and medicare allotments...
Education? What education? If you or anyone you know with children is considering relocating to Sofla, realize that the public education system here is horrendously substandard and private schools are exorbitantly expensive and few and far between. I assure you that you do not want your children in public school here and not just because of the educational system itself (see the topmost point above regarding the psycho-ward "mentality" that is prevalent here, plus the new post over on the "SoFla News" page regarding the layoff of hundreds of teachers in the county to save money). Realize that the high school graduation rate in Dade and Broward counties (Miami and Lauderdale) was 45% and 48% last year, and has been decreasing yearly -- so two out of four students become high school dropouts here, then look to government handouts and crime as a means of subsisting, turning to drugs and making babies which will increase the number of impoverished hopeless...
Religions. To name just a few: "El Africano'', "Oloye Ifatoku", "Ifa Orisha", "Santería", and "Yoruba". Not only are Judaism and Islam religions prominent in Sofla, but there is a preponderance of occult, satanic, and paganistic "religions" to be found here. The practices of these religions range from drinking the mucus of giant African snails to public mutilation of animals (see the video of the decapitated chicken on the "SoFla Beaches" page).
Certifiably inept commissioners from hell. Documenting this ditty would fill volumes. For now, just an example of a much too typical fiasco. First, the state of Florida is nationally recognized as narcotics trafficking scourge, but for anyone uninformed, the entire state of Florida allows the sale of narcotics to anyone that has the money from out of strip mall "pill mills" which are not licensed nor monitored nor staffed by medical personnel and are even owned by ex-convicts, and on and on. But, back to Hollywood and the commissars: they enacted an ordinance to regulate pill mills that covers only unincorporated areas, where there just happen to be no pill mills. Zero, zilch, none whatsoever. We will leave it at that for now with no further comment at this time; none needed we think...
.Outside of a little moaning and groaning with the above colossally monumental DUH examples, we do not have much here yet, but there are hundreds of examples yet to go (which unfortunately increase daily) and until we can get back to adding more examples of why Hollywood sucks, click on this link to the "Why we changed this website" page, or see our overview of "DUH Keys" page for a sample of the type of valuable local resident insider information that we are going to provide here, and see our "Top 50 Reasons to Avoid Florida" page for a rundown of some well suppressed but essential information on what goes on in the moonshine state...
