South Florida -- a.k.a. SoFla

As a convenience for anyone desiring further information on the region of South Florida, below you will find a concise compilation of some varied links to news and information sources specific to the area.

Note that "SoFla" is the common abbreviation used for the southeastern tip of the Florida peninsula. This eastern region of South Florida is also commonly referred to as Florida's "Gold Coast", encompassing the counties of Palm Beach, Broward (Fort Lauderdale), Dade (Miami), and in some cases Monroe (the Keys). Note that, although technically within the boundaries of the South Florida region, the southwest Florida coast for some reason is not connected to this area nickname, and rather the region from Tampa to Naples was originally referred to as the "Pirate Coast", but is now promoted as the "Sun Coast".

In case you missed it, we thought that we should emphasize here that the "City Data" link above is to a site where you can obtain a wide variety of interesting statistics about any U.S. city, county, or zip code (there is also a listing of cities by state). Also of importance is that statisical "profiles" regarding schools and neighborhoods are provided, and while this information may be of passing interest to the casual observer, it could be invaluable if relocation is a consideration. Lastly, note that there are area specific forums (bulletin boards) where you can pose questions. Here is the link again: "City Data" - Detailed Statistics on U.S. Cities, Counties, Zips, Schools, and Neighborhoods.

If you are considering a visit here to check out the area or to vacation here, click on this link to find South Florida accommodations (and flights from overseas...). This USAtravelmarket.com website searches 100’s of hotel and travel agents websites to find you the best deals.

And, if you do happen to be considering relocation to the warm sunny state of Florida (now is a really good time to find some great housing bargains) try this link: Florida Home Buying and Relocation Guide. So if you get serious about the area, a great realtor that happens to be a life long resident of Hollywood (and also a county commissioner) is Patricia Asseff.

If you happen to be in need of a great dentist in the area, we strongly recommend Mario Laska.

If you need some computer work done while in the area, we highly recommend 22nd Century Computers.
