December 2nd, 2009
Some blustery weather on a much warmer morning at about 78 degrees, and the weather forecasters indicate that we may have record heat today in the mid 80's, with a front coming in tomorrow bringing rain and storms. A little rough for December here, more like the transitional mid-November weather. But, no complaints, we will take the "tween season" warmth and storms and rain as a reprieve before the cold season and tourists invade us for a few months in our second "mean season".
December 3rd, 2009 - At daybreak, Take 1 of 3...
December 3rd, 2009 - Got Seaweed?
Seaweed washes up on the shore when it is abundant out in the gulf stream and strong winds blow it our way. We hear that the Japanese ingest a great deal of seaweed and that as a result they are one of the healthiest nations on this little old planet -- seaweed is rich with iodine and iodine deficiencies are the source of a great many ills of the rest of the populace of this planet, which just happens to be largely iodine deficient. Still, the stuff doesn't look all that appetizing, and although we have tried it in Japanese restaurants, we think we will go with iodized salt rather than harvest this stuff off of the beach -- does anybody do that?
December 3rd, 2009 - At sunrise, Take 3...
Nice morning, but the local yocal weather dogs tell us that we will continue the recent lapse back into summer like weather, with near record high temps today, humididity, and a few storms. No complaints, mid 80's is just fine with us...
December 5th, 2009
Snow has fallen across the southern U.S., as far south as Houston Tejas -- which is a record early snowfall there -- and here in SoFla, following on the heels of a record all time high temp for the month of December, today we have a tornado watch on top of a rainy, stormy afternoon predicted here, altho sunrise was quite pleasant, cool and breezy... So, record early snows in Texas, record heat here -- do we have global cooling or global warming? What we have is El Nino, which results in wetter, cooler, stormier, tornado-ier winter months in the south, milder temps to the north.
Footnote: the waves were rolling in fast today, and many viewers have noticed that previously along with the fact that at other times the waves seem to be moving in slow motion, almost like they are trying to put on the brakes, and some wonder if it has something to do with the camera. The reason is that waves do this based on whether the tide is coming in, as it was today, or going out, which is when the waves move slowly -- winds of course can also affect this effect.

December 6th, 2009
The clouds from the cold front still hanging around at sunrise but it is slowly clearing off, going from a low of 58 all the way up to a delightful 76 degrees, should be a great day to get out and about -- trouble is, everyone else will also be out and about. Well, there's always tomorrow, we will just stick close to "da beach" today and enjoy the nice weather.
December 7th, 2009 - Another Murky Morning...
Hmm, looks like another bikini photo shoot down the beach a ways, think we will go check it out.
December 7th, 2009 - Kayaker Goin Out...
We are still enveloped in the clutches of the cloudy cool front that moved in a couple of days ago. This seems more like the transitional weather that we normally get in mid November, so following the Indian Summer "heat wave" we would speculate that this is finally the belated transition from warmer summer/fall weather to the cooler fall/winter weather -- except that the weather peeps here are talking about more record heat following this cool weather. Can't possibly be "climate warming" tho, has to be due to El Nino...
December 8th, 2009 - A beautiful day for a birthday Deenee, have another happy "29th"...
After the recent prolonged cloudy wet windy "cool snap", the temps have gotten back to normal here. Actually well above normal. Seems like for some time and now every day they predict record high temps, in the mid to upper 80's, which is just fine with us. But, we feel compelled to note that the average "mean" temps for this region are about ten degrees lower than the near record high temps have been of late, and actually for the last several months, if not for the entire year -- we recall the incantation that month so-and-so was the warmest on record, along with of course the highest temperature ever recorded here of 100 degrees a couple of months ago. Hmmm, no, we won't go into a rant of facetiousisms about global climate weather warming change...
December 10th, 2009 - Deja Vu Heat All Over Again
We continue to be met with yet another morning prognostication of record breaking heat again today, all the way up to a summer like 87 degrees -- this following yesterday's record breaker and the consistently ten degrees above normal onslaught of high temps of late. Within the same morning weather report, we noted blizzard conditions in the midwest and northeast with temps falling with tropical storm force winds such that wind chills are way below zero. So, northern "deniers" will no doubt go about not-so-subliminally exclaiming "What global warming?". We here in Sofla say look at our prolonged period of ten degrees above normal record breaking temps and look forward to the same in your northern regions next summer -- unless of course the close proximity of all of the freezing cold ocean waters from the way-faster-than-predicted melting ice sheets, glaciers, and polar ice caps (40% gone already) manages to hold back the increasing escalation of heat for a few more years -- until all the ice is gone, then, well heck, this warming is just a temporary "cycle", and somehow, even tho the building greenhouse effect is going to increasingly trap the increasing emissions of heat and pollution from the massively burgeoning populations and industries, well heck, in spite of all that and more, this fragile little planet will somehow go back to another ice age, yep, believe it...and, oh hey, if not, then the big oil companies can produce more oil and crank up some new giant air conditioning system and turn it on high...
December 11th, 2009 - Another front from the north, another cool down with strong winds...
December 12th, 2009 - Stormy Weather
Second day of cool front, very windy and cloudy, bringing our temps back down only to normal after the record heat. Supposedly we will have showers off and on today and tonight. The local weather gookeroos in the midst of our cool spell have the audacity to prognosticate a return to record high temps again tomoro, back up to ten degrees or so above normal -- which quite frankly, is begginning to BE the normal temps, is it not? But, it is not climate warming changes globally, just locally El Nino warmthing...
December 13th. A mis-communication resulted in accidental deletion of today's sunrise video. So, for the record, a day later the video guy can't recall details about the sunrise, but he thinks that the clouds had moved out and that the air was very clear and that a glaringly bright sun came up directly from the horizon which does not typically make for a good video anyway.
December 14th, 2009 - Forecast is for record high temp of 87 today...
December 16th, 2009 - Same ole forecast for near record high temps today...
December 17th, 2009 - Morning storms rolling in off the ocean...
December 18th, 2009 - Wiiiindy...
Our latest summer like heat wave ended yesterday evening when strong tropical storm like weather rolled in off of the Atlantic, bringing fourteen inches of rain, blown horizontally by strong winds, with thunder and lightning. Actually felt very spring like as it was still somewhat warm last night. Although the morning brought a short reprieve in the rains, the winds were still very strong, and the severe storms are supposed to pick back up again this afternoon. Very atypical weather for December here, it's normally very nice, although sometimes windy. If you caught the news today, you likely saw reports from our area of the flooding and wind damage...
December 19th, 2009 - After the storms...
The two day storms that brought over a foot of rain, flooding, tropical storm wind gusts, and even a tornado have been pushed out of the area by a cool front, dropping temps from near record warmth down into the mid sixties, with prognositcations of the low temps in the mid fifties for tomoro morning, followed by low temps down into the 40's on Monday. No happy medium, no time to adjust to the cold -- altho, with the snow storms and wind chills up north, we shall not complain, too much.
December 20th, 2009
A chilly morning here, temps down into the mid 50's, but the wind chill wasn't too bad, so it was tolerable for a walk on the beach. Today and tomoro we are supposed to see temps about ten degrees below average, a quick turnaround from the previous ten degrees above average. Better than the "blizzard of '09" up north though...
December 20th, 2009 - Take 2 at sunrise
December 21st, 2009 - The Winter Solstice, take 2
.
December 22nd, 2009 - Clouded over at sunrise, just for the record...
Another cloudy and chilly morning here, temps down into the mid 60's. Today we are supposed to see temps remain about ten degrees below average, but finally warming up over the next few days...
December 23rd, 2009 - A little warmer but still windy...
December 24th, 2009 - Ditto yesterday...
December 25th, 2009 - HO, HO, HO, HOwindy and HOchilly...
December 26th, 2009 - A cold north wind this morning, down to about 60...
December 27th, 2009 - Temps down to 60 at sunrise, no wind, tho still chilly but tolerable...
December 28th, 2009 - Finally, less wind, warmer temps, more like normal for December...
December 29th, 2009
December 30th, 2009 - Back in the 50's again...
December 31st, 2009 - Last sunrise of '09 and the "ought" years...
