Sunrise Archive March 2010

March 01 2010 - Spring is just around the corner. Isn't it? Cool today...

March 02 2010 - Nice at sunrise, but storms and wind moving in later today...

March 03 2010. Cloudy, cold, and very windy this morning, so we did not even get out to attempt to capture a sunrise video today. Temp was 55 but winds were gusting into upper 20's and the clouds were not favorable so we chose to stay under the covers and sleep in. Tomorrow may be yet another opt-out as the weather prognosticators are forecasting record cold down into the lower 40's, but if the color is there and if it's not windy we may get the wimpy video guy to run out for a quick video...

March 04 2010. It appears that we did not experience the predicted record low temp of 42 degrees this morning, as it was more like the upper 40's here on the edge of the Atlantic. But, with winds of from 12 to 16 mph, the "feels like" was likely down into the low 40's, and as predicted we opted-out of getting out there to capture a sunrise video today. Hope to get back out there tomoro morning, altho they are yet again predicting a record low of 43, so that's a long shot...

March 05 2010. Too cold for a sunrise video again, low temp down to 44 tying the all time record for the date, with winds over 10 mph, resulting in "feels like" conditions down into the 30's, a.k.a. freezing. They say that we are going to finally start to see a warm-up today from this nearly 20 degrees below normal cold spell. TWC announced that this has been the second coldest winter on record for south Florida -- the coldest must have been at the end of that last ice age. Hopefully, we will be back in the sunrise video business tomoro morning, sorry for the temporary lapse, we are well acclimated to heat down here, but we wimp out in cold weather -- we did encounter some snowbird tourists yesterday clad in only shorts and tshirts, happy with this sunny summer-like weather...

March 06 2010. No sunrise video again this morning. Although the temp at daybreak was all the way up to about 50, and there was only a slight breeze at around 5 mph, it felt a lot colder than that for some reason, maybe the humidity or lack of it or the dew point, it just felt way too cold to get out to the beach. And, the sky was crystal clear, not a very video-genic sky, so we decided that tomoro finally looks like things will be more back to normal. Altho the mornings have been way too cold, the sunshine is getting rather intense in warmth, hot actually if we can get out of the breeze, good weather to soak up some vitamin D and catch a little nap. Spring is only two weeks away, and it is beginning to feel like it here, during the day anyway, with honey bees buzzing about the foliage, birds singing their songs and foraging around in the grass for snacks, geckos sunning themselves, little bitty puffs of cottony seeds floating along on the gentle cool breezes, and even a few of those green "June bugs" trying to thaw out. We are ready for that good time of year here, after a very disappointing winter season that brought "historic" cold, rain, wind, and flooding -- hopefully this strong cold El Nino will be replaced with a gentle warm but always tempermental La Nina that doesn't stir up any hurricanes...

March 07 2010. No video today, not bad at 50 degrees but we slept in after a rare late night. Tomoro should see us back on track...

March 08 2010 - Finally, a less frigid morning, all the way up to about 55 at daybreak, tolerable...

March 09 2010 - A cloudy morning, but warmer, 61 degrees, going up to mid 70's today...

March 10 2010 - About ten degrees at sunrise, with winds of 65 mph. Hmmm, that would make the wind chill, let's see, about 50 below zero -- oh, wait a minute, we got that backwards -- the breezes were at ten mph and the temp was at 65 degrees, not that bad... Sorry not awake yet, a rough "staff meeting" at the tiki bar last night...

March 11 2010 - A spring-ish morning, warm at 73 degrees, but with winds at around 20 mph...

Above video was captured at official time of sunrise, with the sun "in absentia". A cloudy morning, and we are in for a cloudy day, with severe storms predicted with temps up to 80 and winds up to 30. Yep, feels like a stormy spring day here...

March 13 2010 - The last of yesterday's storm clouds moving out to sea...

At sunrise, the remnants of yesterday's stormy weather makes it a chilly cloudy morning, with temps in the mid 60's. The storms did bring some inland flooding as was predicted with several inches of rain accumulating throughout the day, but no tornadoes or water spouts. The clouds are supposed to move out this morning, clearing off to be a mostly sunny day today, with temps up to the mid 70s. No doubt the sunshine will be hot today, a good day to get out and soak up some vitamin D.

March 14 2010 - Clouds? What happened to the "completely sunny" forecast?

Looks like the weatherbuggers missed a blob of clouds that came out of nowhere, as it was obviously mostly cloudy at sunrise. The locals weather duds did admit to the mistake, but ventured the always expected chamber of commerce Sunday morning forecast whereby the clouds would clear out early in the morning for a "mostly" sunny day. But, here we are at mid afternoon and its "kinda cloudy, kinda sunny", with off and on sun and shade, but they are nice big poofy white clouds in a very blue sky, providing shady breaks from the hot sun, a "just right" Goldylocks spring-ish day here. Temp is up into the mid 70s and we are not complaining, good day to get out and catch up on exercise, so we are heading out to join the multitude of wackos also out to catch up on whatever it is they enjoy doing -- we hope some of them are out to enjoy bouncing around in their eye candy skimpy bikinis...

March 15 2010

At sunrise, another nice morning, crisp air, but with calm breezes. Looks like a sunny day ahead, with cool temps in the mid 70's again, finally looks normal for this time of year, another good day to get out and soak up some vitamin D...

March 16 2010

A little chilly at sunrise, temperature was in the upper 50's with a strong breeze, make it feel like 50-ish, but it is supposed to be another zippiddee-doodah day in the mid 70's with plenty of sunshine and gentler breezes.

March 17 2010 - Top of the Mornin To Ya...

Saint Paddys Day starts off mostly cloudy and will likely stay that way with a chance of showers and cool temps in the low 70's predicted today. No breeze, about 60 degrees at sunrise, feeling and looking like a rainy spring day today...

March 18 2010 - Calm and cool at sunrise, temperature about 58 degrees

March 19 2010 - Calm but cold at sunrise, temperature about 53 degrees, a sunny day ahead...

March 20 2010 - Calm, cool, about 55 at daybreak...

The above video was captured a little before sunrise, as it was entirely too crystal clear at sunrise, with the sun "rising out of the water", it was just too bright for our video camera. We are finally going to experience a break from the below average temps, with the long range forecast showing temps more normal with highs in the 70's and lows in the 60's. We agree with TWC's contention that this has been the worst winter ever, global cooling you now... ;)

March 21 2010 - Blustery winds, about 72 at sunrise -- degrees, not mph...

Our recent calm weather has turned stormy with the arrival of the first full day of spring. That recent long range forecast of a long string of warm, dry, sunny days has had a little stormy weather injected into it this weekend, with the weather pattern remaining pretty much the same as it had been -- nice, stormy, nice -- although it's a little warmer finally, but still below average...

March 22 2010 - Overnight rains have dispersed but still cloudy, sunrise temp at 67...

March 23 2010

Nice at sunrise, calm with temps in the upper 60's. Sandpipers are back and lovin it...

March 24 2010

A calm sunrise with the typical cloud bank over the gulfstream, temps in the upper 50's this morning with a nice day ahead up into the upper 70's, yummy...

March 25 2010

Another gorgeous day ahead, up near 80 degrees for the high temperature -- the weather peeps here are finally declaring that so far this has been the coldest month of March here ever, but we already knew that...

March 26 2010 - Overnight rainstorms moving out to sea...

Rained most of the night, but just before sunrise the clouds moved offshore into the Atlantic. Prediction was for more storms today, but it looks like the front has moved through and temps are finally supposed to get up to around 80 degrees today, finally about normal...

March 28 2010

Cloudy at sunrise, with yet another spring like storm system moving through the area this morning, but the temp was up into the lower 70's and still a little chilly with the strong southeast breezes. We are looking at a high of around 80 again today but they say it will become stormier as the day goes on. Yesterday made it up to near mid 80's making for a delightfully splendid day, evident by a higher number of beach-goers than we have seen for a long time. After the heat wave in December, we experienced the coldest January and February here ever, and March looks like it will cap off the winter season as the coldest month of March ever recorder for Sofla, thanks to El Nino and the runoff from the melting global ice sheets...

March 29 2010

Yet another storm system has moved into the area, bringing heavy clouds, strong winds, rain, thunder, lightning (about 10 seconds into the video witness the flash -- crazy video guy!), inland flooding, and tornado warnings. There are reports that just to our north a couple of miles that trees are being blown down in a tornadic-like cell. Again, seems more like spring in northern climates, very unusual weather for this area.
