This morning at (the official time of) "sunrise" we see the tail end of the almost-tropical-storm-Ana, a fierce subtropical low that hung over the state for days with high winds and flooding -- invoking a rare double red flag warning that closed the beach to swimming (the lifeguards can catch up on their sleep that way).

Looks like the last remnants of the almost-tropical-storm-Ana trickling in, altho the seven day forecast on the weather channel consistently reflects the clouds, lightning, and partial sun that would indicate that the rainy season has arrived.

Stay with this video, although it starts out looking like just another blicky morning, this is actually a storm system with a huge thunderhead, and the clouds up above it with shadowing is worth the wait...

The video guy managed to capture an even dozen decent videos of this mornings sunrise. Since the videos were taken over a 30 minute span with a storm line moving into the area, they were all different and interesting so it was difficult to decide which ones to post -- we intend to go over the remainder later and migrate a few more of them directly into the archives...

Posting the last sunrise for the month of May for '09, we wanted to point out that if you observed a lot of storms for this start of our rainy season here, that it was announced that an all time record breaking rainfall was recorded for the month of May here in Broward and Dade counties as well as in many other counties across the state -- note that this was preceded by several months of a record breaking dry spell. So, with the unusually high winds, an increase in the number of cold spells, combined with more frequent record breaking heat, this all would seem to indicate, maybe, what? Surely this cannot be "climate change" -- likely it is only because of all those useless glaciers and polar ice caps melting, causing some weird weather, just temporarily...

Update: three days later, we ran across an article on Weather Underground's WunderBlog which pointed out that the surface temperatures of ocean waters had dropped significantly over the last seven months (as one reason to lower the predictions of hurricane intensities this year...). How right we were....but they did not correlate the world wide ice melt as the reason for the water cooling, of course. If you would like to peruse the article click on this link to "Change in Sea Surface Temperature Anomaly". Note the dark purple areas in figure 1 indicating the most significant temperature drop around the north Atlantic areas like Greenland, Iceland, et al, which also happens to be where all the ice is melting ("anomaly" my butt...). Note the time and date on the article as 4:45 PM GMT on June 02, 2009, and you all know that we posted the above note three days earlier -- are we good or what?
