January 1, 2010 - Second take after sunset...
January 2 2010 - No clouds, crystal clear, bright sun, so video after sun sets, just for the record...
January 3 2010 - Exact opposite of yesterday, solid clouds at sunset...
January 5 2010 - A new cold front pushes the old cold front further south with first cold front...
Tonight we only have one short clip. It was entirely too cold to hang around out on the intracoastal boardwalk with a strong wind blowing out of the northwest with the temperature down to almost 50, the wind chill was brutal to a long time dweller of south Florida. The video guy indicated that even with four layers of clothing on that the cold went right through it all. An interesting observation, was that altho there were a few clouds at sunset, they were being pushed to the south by an even more intense cold front and soon after the sky was crystal clear, devoid of clouds - a cold front moving in on a cold front in a "historic" prolonged five day cold spell. Predicting a continued drop in morning temps down to mid thirties tomoro, so there might well be another "short clip" for the morning sunrise...
January 6 2010 - Another cloudless sunset, very clear sky, and too bright sun...
Tonight was a repeat of four days ago, when we took a short vid after sunset, because before the sun set it was too bright for the camera. The video guy did go over to the intracoastal and did capture a short clip, but we are not going to upload it, as it looks exactly the same as the one from the second of January, just some mangroves in a swamp on the other side of a waterway. Just for the record, another chilly day here up to the mid 50's only, but the sun was nice and bright and warm out of the breeze, soaked up a little vitamin D... Footnote: we heard that the low temp in Key West broke a 131 year old record low -- my cousin down there used hypothermia as excuse to take the day off.
January 8 2010
Day 8 of the prolonged cold spell saw a high temp of 74 today due to abundant warm sunshine, almost back up to normal, but we still classify it as continued much colder than normal, which it certainly was at sunrise and at sunset.
January 10 2010 - Day ten of prolonged historic "deep freeze" cold spell.
Twas a bitterly cold day today, temps barely made it up near the mid 40's today and the wind stayed more than a little brisk, making it feel more like the mid 30's aallll daaayyy loooong. The sun came out this afternoon, but could not feel it's warmth like earlier in the week due to the intense cold. Just a good day to stay inside where it was a much warmer sixty degrees (requiring two space heaters to keep it even that warm). Yet another "near record" low predicted for temps overnight, much like the recent "near record" high temps of last month. Quite a turn around, but in retrospect we prefer the record heat, as we now realize that heat is much more tolerable than cold, as you can get by with bare feet and shorts compared to 4 or 5 layers of clothes with two pair of sox and shoes and all that dry heat, ick! Staying cooped up isn't much fun either. Yep, give me heat any old day, never going to wish for cooler weather again...
January 11 2010 - Day eleven of prolonged historic "deep freeze" cold spell.
After a morning that saw the wind chills dip into the mid twenties once again, the afternoon saw the wind dwindling down to minor breezes, a warm sunshine, and high temperature crawling up the average low temp of 60 degrees. Not much of a day to get out and exercise, mostly just short walks in the sunny areas out of the breeze, and of course finding a place to sit down and soak up the warmth for a while, a little vitamin D therapy. Predicting 5 degrees warmer each day until it reaches 80 by Saturday. Very chilly at sunset, the air was crystal clear, sun was very bright, no clouds.
January 12 2010 - Day twelve of prolonged historic "deep freeze" cold spell.
A fairly nice day today, sunny, less wind, a little warmer, up into the lower sixties, but still felt very crisp, just a good day to sit around and soak up the sun, take a short walk, do a little shopping, like that -- hoping for still warmer temps tomoro, really need to get in some good exercise, after twelve days of being confined indoors due to cold chill.
January 13 2010 - Historic Cold Snap Nears End, Winter Departing, Spring has Sprung...
It was a thoroughly delightful day today. One of those extra pleasant days when there is a light blanket of high velvety clouds which produces bright but muted sunlight, ultra light breezes constantly shifting in direction, very warm but not quite hot sunshine, with cool crisp clean air, earthy fragrances drifting up from the "thawing" tundra, with aromatic scents of ocean, swamp, and subtropical barrier island, all mingling together with wispy scents of wood smoke from fireplaces. Highly reminiscent of northern regions with a late fading winter day strongly hinting of an early spring day. The kind of day that makes you want to get outside with a soft warm blanket and find a sunny spot on a grassy hillside and just watch the clouds drift by overhead -- maybe roll downhill til you get dizzy like when you were just a kid...then take a nap in the cool grass with the warm sun beating down. Life is good!
January 14 2010 - A little warmer today, but mostly cloudy from sunrise to sunset...
January 15 2010
January 16 2010 - Nice, normal day today, temps up to almost 80...
January 17 2010 - Water Taxi lumbers back up to Lauderdale
A stormy afternoon today, as we had clouds and rain move through for a couple of hours, but it cleared off with a cool down into the upper sixties by sunset...
January 18 2010
It was a thoroughly delightful day today, felt like a late winter or early spring day in a northern climate -- crystal clear crisp air, warm and sunny with a cool stillness, everything fresh and clean...
January 19 2010 - Lovely day today, the usual brisk but warm and sunny, wood smoke in the air...
January 20 2010
Another day that felt a lot like fall in northern regions. Wood smoke is heavy in the air as locals stoke up their fireplaces, and the recent prolonged "deep freeze" had the same effect as an early frost up north of turning leaves brown and resulting in a mat of fallen leaves everywhere. Add to that the warm sun, cool brisk temperatures with crystal clear air and it was highly reminiscent of a lazy fall day in the midwest...
January 21 2010
January 22 2010
January 23 2010 - A total cloud-out at sunset...
The warm front continues, but with more normal not near record temps today in the upper 70's and very windy, but it was solid grey clouds at sunset with light sprinkles off and on, icky weather...
January 24 2010
A short break in the cloud cover at sunset, but it didn't last long. We had yet another cloudy day in the lower 70's with a few sprinkles off and on today, not exactly "chamber of commerce weather", but the tourists were out and about just like it was a spring day.
January 25 2010
A cold front is moving in, pushing out the murky clouds that have dominated the last few days, bringing clear dry air with it, but temps are supposed to plunge again by about 20 degrees overnight. No complaints tho, will be nice to have sunshine again, might make it into the low 70's tomoro they predict...
January 26 2010
Not a cloud in the sky, calm, cool, crystal clear, so just a short clip for the record. High temps made it into the low 70's today, sunny of course, warm in the sunshine, cool in the shade, just nice. No sign of clouds on the horizon, likely going to be a cloudless sunrise tomoro, altho we sometimes get a "fog bank" over the gulf stream that shields the rising sun...
January 27 2010
January 28 2010
Similar weather to yesterday, similar sunset to yesterday, similar everything to yesterday, but no complaints, everything is good here -- a Goldylocks day, not too cold, not too warm, not too humid, not too cloudy, not too sunny, and some folks here are not too bright...
January 29 2010
Dark clouds from another weather system moving in from the northwest, to bring humidity and chance of showers tomorrow, same ole, same ole for the year so far, round we go again...better than the weather "up north" though...
