July 1st, 2009 yielded yet another cloudy, rainy sunset, one that we will not post a video for, as we are implementing an approach as noted in the archives and posts pages whereby we will limit posting of videos to only exceptional or diverse sunsets, eliminating those of little interest but documenting them textually for historical comparison purposes if they are of any particular note...

July 2nd, 2009 - another cloudy sunset after a stormy evening, but thought we would post one take anyway since it was so calm afterwards. We do feel compelled to note that the "rainy season" this year is quite different, with the normal occasional downpours between intermittent periods of sunshine being replaced by day-long storms with little sunshine...

Yes, that background popping sound is fireworks, goes on all day long on the 4th (all weekend actually, fireworks for personal use is a big business here...).

July 9th, 2009 - The video guy was there, the sunset was not... (that is a take-off from the Buffett song titled "The Weather is Here, Wish You were Beautiful", which is yet another take-off on the saying "The Weather is Beautiful, Wish You were Here")

We only managed to capture one video this evening before the camera/batteries went haywire, and according to the video guy, we missed some really good footage later on, so this was as good as we were able to post for this evening, altho he indicated (with much cursing) that it did get much better later on with with what he called some "northern lights" effects above the thunderheads ("northern lights"? we think he meant those cloud "rainbows" that move and bend...).

This seemingly harmless thunderhead over the 'glades may not look all that impressive, but every few minutes it generated vicious lightning bolts that shot several miles out into the coastal beach areas. Even the supposedly "fearless" video guy did not stick around long to try to capture a video of a strike, or even the actual sunset apparently -- he likely sought shelter at the nearest tiki bar.....

An hour before sunset, with a major 'glades thunderstorm moving into the area. Shortly after this video was captured, about an hour before sunset, it was quite dark, very windy, wet, and thunderous. Although many recent sunsets have appeared inclement weatherwise, the days have been nice and sunny, but very warm with near record heat -- which is the reason that the late afternoon storms roll in off of the big swamp.

The National Weather Service is warning of winds of 70 mph, "deadly" lightning, and torrential downpours out of this one, so since it is six pm and sunset is at eight pm, thought we would post the weather map of the storm in case we have to shut down due to the storm. Likely will not clear off by sunset, but if it does, we will try to get out and video it and post it in the morning. That little reddish pink marker at the lower right pinpoints our location, so looks like we going to get hit... Followup: the predicted storms imploded, but the solid grey wall of clouds at sunset made for yet another lackluster sunset unworthy of a video...

OK, the video guy informed me that my observation that the vivid color of the water is misleading, as with the naked eye there was no difference, and that the effect is a defect of our cheapo video camera not adjusting to the light correctly...oh well...

July 29th, 2009 - No sunset video tonite, as the the vid guy said it wasn't worth it: "too many gray clouds over the swamp" (it was pretty bleak looking out there)...

A very still evening, and the video guy complained of being eaten up by no-see-ums and mosquitos. I told him maybe it was time for his weekly shower :) just kidding, he showers two or three times a day this time of year (after each time he works out)...

A panoramic sky full of fantastic cloud formations, but this was as much color as Mother Nature would allow on this calm and beautiful evening...
