June 13th, 2009 - take two after sunset

We are posting the above final take from the 13th, late the next day as a result of inquiries as to why we had not done so, based on how impressive the clouds were in the original video of the early sunset from the 13th....as you can see, once again, what was expected to be an extra-spectacular sunset just turned out to be nominally spectacular, and that was why we did not post it...

June 17th, 2009 - A "Big Eagle" sunset

In person, the detail was much more vivid, but the camera being a fixed wide angle lens "drops down" the scene and eliminates the clarity of what was a cloud formation shaped like an eagle. If you study the very top cloud, the white part, you can still see the outline of an eagle, facing to the right with wings spread back as in flight and legs down with beak headed to the right. Also, the cloud formation was much clearer a minute or so earlier, but a few takes were interrupted by "the usual suspects", and much of the detail had faded by the time this take was finally captured...

June 21st, 2009 - Father's Day Summer Solstice Sunset

June 22nd, 2009 -- At sunset on the intracoastal waterway

Not just record breaking heat today, but an all time record of the highest temperature ever recorded on any date in the history of many SoFla locales -- an even 100 degrees in Fort Lauderdale, the first time ever in triple digits for any date in history, and it is only mid-June...

June 22nd, 2009 -- Take 2, oceanside looking west at midpoint of sunset...

June 22nd, 2009 -- The video guy returned tonight with over two dozen takes of the sunset, yet another record. Yesterday may have been the longest DAY of the year, but tonight was the longest sunset of the year. Tough to decide which videos to post, they were all very good and differing. The above video was taken ocean-side with a 180 degree pan to the west, at midpoint of the sunset (those are the tops of "sea oats" blowing around in the lower part of the video).

June 22nd, 2009 -- Take 3, after sunset back over to the intracoastal waterway

Observation of note. June 22nd. In addition to all the other deviations from normalcy that have occurred recently, toward evening on this date we observed hordes of thousands of dragonflies swarming above the seagrapes on North Surf Road. Swarms of only hundreds of dragonflies, much later in the summer, would be considered normal, but the air was thick with thousands of them this evening. We have also observed masses of caterpillars (of unknown identity to us, but not dragonfly) on North Surf Road, never noticed before, or possibly the number was so low that it was not remarkable. Combine this with other curious factors, such as an unusually high number of nesting sea turtles, and it would seem obvious that "climate change" is producing alterations in fauna and flora. Various similar anomalies have also been reported in articles concerning species other than those noted here -- click on this link to an interesting article titled "Ample evidence Florida's feeling effects of climate change", which notes similarly curious observations on some significant changes with fauna, fish, insects, and birds in the sunshine state (noticed that it mentions several new species of dragonfly from southern, warmer climates, so that explains the above-mentioned dragonfly swarms...).

June 23rd, 2009 - At sunset, after the storm, cooling off from yesterday's high temps

June 23rd, 2009 - After sunset, with ospreys calling in the background

June 24th, 2009 - Nice evening, temps about 80, low humidity, nice breeze...

The above video was the only one that the video guy managed to capture this evening, as the video camera has become more consistently problematic the last couple of days, so we missed a couple of better takes a few minutes later when the colors were at peak...

June 25th, 2009

Another nice warm day, morning showers, beautiful afternoon and evening. But again, the video camera was problematic this evening, initiating automatic self power down after a second or two into subsequent takes, and consequently we missed the full color a few minutes later. As a result, I am learning that the video guy is quite multi-lingual, in curse words anyway...

June 26th, 2009

Another spectacular sunset, but this was just a short clip before it really blossomed out -- our video camera went dysfunctional again before the best of the sunset, just minutes later...

June 27th, 2009 - Another nice day, with typical thunderstorms in the late afternoon...

June 28th, 2009 - Twas a nice morning, with stormy afternoon and evening...

June 29th, 2009 - We have had frequent storms rolling in from the Everglades since mid morning today. And, there is a yet another solid grey wall of moisture to the west this evening with not the slightest hint of light. It is almost dark before sunset, so there will be no sunset video posted this evening...

June 30th, 2009 - At sunset, murky clouds moving in...
