March 02 2010
Winds were said to be gusting to only 25 mph but we think it was well over that, as it was impossible to hold the video cam steady, and the wind noise was over the top. Add to that a dense cloud cover with little color and it all added up to a so so video. Anyway, it was yet another unusually chilly day today, and we had wind advisories earlier, almost tropical storm strength, but it was sunny and a nice day for a walk...
March 03 2010
Winds were strong again today, gusting to 25 mph, and it seemed even colder than yesterday, but still good to get out for a beach walk at low tide, the ocean was a beautiful crystal blue and the spray from the white waves was blown backwards in photogenic fashion. They say we are headed for record cold overnight tonight with temps down to 43 and winds of 10 to 15 mph, so we are looking at wind chills in the thirties, which will likely result in no volunteers to video the sunrise in the frigid morning air, so you can probably skip an early morning visit to check on a sunrise video tomoro. Sorry, but the videographers do not yet have any compensation for their efforts...

March 11 2010 - Whitecaps on the Intracoastal Waterway, again...
Today was a strange day, with temps in the mid 70's, winds in the low 20's, and 100% humidity. The result was a situation where it was difficult to be comfortable, seemingly easy to be either too warm or too cool. But, it is an improvement over the relentless historic cold that we have experienced since January. Feels like the start of the rainy season here, and that will be an improvement over the incessant cold that started on the very first day of January and lasted for over two months with no reprieve...
March 13 2010
We had a lovely day here in suuunnny SoFla, nice and warm with cooling breezes, but the crystal clear sky did not make for much of a sunset video...
March 14 2010
Twas an indescribably beautiful day here today, therefore we will not attempt to describe it except to say that it just doesn't get much better, a "zippidee doodah" day...
March 17 2010 - Another nice day, cool and calm...
March 18 2010 - Cool front moving in but most of the day was warm and sunny here...
March 19 2010 - Calm flat water but the sky was too crystal clear to capture video until after sunset...
March 20 2010 - A repeat of yesterday's sunset...
Another beautiful day with temps in the mid 70's, so similar to yesterday that the sunset tonight was much the same as yesterdays...
March 21 2010
A much too nice spring day today in the 70's, brought a hoard of invading inlanders to the beach and it was more crowded than it has been for a long time. Tourist season was light because of the tight economy and inlanders stayed away this winter because of the cold cloudy weather. We got spoiled having the beach and broadwalk to ourselves, but today we had a reminder of how crowded it can get on nice weekends.
March 22 2010 - Nice day in the mid 70's, crystal clear, with breezes lingering...
March 23 2010
We had another delightful day here today, sunny, but a little cool with high temps in the mid 70's...
March 25 2010 -- Another nice day in the upper 70's but rainstorms will be moving into the area...
March 26 2010
After overnight rains moved out to sea this morning, we had one more round of spring thunderstorms move through at mid-day, but otherwise it was mostly sunny and warm, with a little lingering humidity from the rains, which left widespread pools of water for the mosquitoes to get started with...not that the nearby mangrove swamps don't provide plenty of that.
March 27 2010 - Crystal clear, no clouds, no breeze at sunset...
Today we had high temps near the mid 80's, making for a delightfully splendid zippidy doodah day, evident by a higher number of beach-goers than we have seen for a long time. After the unusual heat wave in December, we experienced the coldest January and February here ever, and March looks like it will cap off the winter season as the coldest month of March ever recorded for Sofla, thanks to El Nino and the runoff from the melting global ice sheets. The ice sheets of course will keep on melting and cooling of the ocean water, but hopefully as El Nino fades this year, we will have normal weather for a year or so, until that often angry La Nina starts flouting her unsettling effects and starts stoking up hurricanes again.
March 28 2010 - Cloudy, windy, cool at sunset
We experienced a spring-like day here today, but more like spring weather in northern climes, warm for a while in the mid 70's, but strong winds and abundant moisture in the air made it feel chilly yet muggy at the same time. We have storm warnings out for tonight, including tornado warnings. Our aberrant but consistent cyclical weather pattern of the last year -- drought, floods, heat waves, cold snaps, nice, then not nice, then nice, and so on -- shows no imminent signs of returning to normalcy any time soon... Hmmm, we hear there are little old towns on the western shores of Costa Rica that are a lot like Key West was decades ago with a lot of down to earth ex-pats, so maybe it is time to move south -- no, wait a minute, Costa Rica will be under water sometime in the near future...
