Unless you are a duck or a polar bear, or enjoy wind-related activities (kite flying), or prefer muggy conditions, or crave overcast days without sunshine, you had little reason to view the last seven days as anything anywhere near the zone of relatively pleasant...
Yes, during a week in the middle of the Florida winter "dry season" that once upon a time would have been nothing other than pleasant, mild, calm, and dry of course, south Florida experienced a potential hurricane advisory, record rains, incessant dark clouds, low temperatures, mugginess, and almost constant windy conditions making "the weather" in the no-sunshine state drearily unpleasant, not fit for a vacation, and not much good for locals to get out and about.
OK, we did have a break for a few hours Friday afternoon, big holes in the sky letting in some sunshine, mild breezes, and almost warm temperatures, and the sun even came out again for a couple of hours at mid day today.
So, in my book we had a total of almost half a day out of the last seven days that -- was not really great weather but -- was not the just plain lousy weather experienced for the rest of the week.
Worse, for non-locals, flagging this one week as an example of rotten weather does not in any way imply that this is the first time that we have had the exact same kind of unpleasant weather this fall and winter when typically in the past we always had pleasant weather during these seasons. Starting in October with the onset of the "dry season" when we saw record rainfalls of almost 30 inches followed up by a November tornado in Lauderdale, we really have not seen very many pleasant weather days.
So, if you are considering a vacation here, try to determine a realistic long range projection of what is in store for the region, but realize that doing so is likely impossible. And if you are thinking of a spring break in Key West, it was just tagged as the "sleaziest" spring break spot, right after Miami was designated as the "most miserble place" by Forbes Mag.
An interesting observation on "the new abnormal" aberrant weather here is that the local corporate-owned mainstream media denierologists collectively ignore the above noted transition over the last few years from always pleasant winter weather to almost always unpleasant winter weather here.
We do have to give that georgeous Julie Durda of WSVN credit for slipping up Friday and admitting that it had been a "gloomy week", jiggle, jiggle. But still failing to tie it all together and admit that the entire fall and winter seasons were not what they used to be and have been getting worse each year.
No, mentioning that might require a scientific explanation that points the guilty finger at climate change induced by global warming that is increasingly worsened by increasingly record high greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere, increasingly allowed by batshit crazy TEApublican deniers, which are financed by the carbon fossil fuel conglomeration which is owned by the pharmaceutucally lobotomized 1% that doesn't give a rat's ass about how the 99% are going to suffer through an overheated hell hole in only two decades...
